I told parents, both sister don't even know if my brother every found out.  In the pass year I've told a few people usually it is almost strangers. If someone ask I say I've been trying to eat better.  That hard to say when my twin is standing next to me trying to keep a straight face.  Even telling her either her are her girls have told her in-laws. You to can tell by the way people look at you. When I figure out a way to paid for plastic I no long have my parents,or brother to tell.  It's just the 3 of us now I just might just disappear an get the job done.

I didn't feel the need to "break the news" to anybody at work.   Wasn't their business.

I told my boss that I needed to take time off for medical leave.  I did let her know that it was nothing life threatening so that she wouldn't worry.  I didn't go into any details other than that.  I have always been a rather private person, so folks at work know not to come to me asking personal questions.

Some people I just told from the beginning and others when they ask.   I did it for my health and not for what others may think.  And no matter what you do to lose weight on your own or have the surgery they will talk once you have lost a certain amount so as long as you are comfortable with it then it should not matter what others think.  As I have said they talk about you if you are skinny or very thick so again it does not matter.

Ladies,

This is all great information.  I am at the starting line for my process.  I feel like this is something that I will share with my co workers.  My job is really small and we all work together well.  I also feel like while it is none of their biz...I am not ashamed and there is nothing wrong with what I will be doing...like I saw posted earlier maybe it will help someone else.  I really respect everyones right to choose but for me I think I would rather have it out in the open.

In the beginning I told my family and close friends. When I went back to work and told my coworkers.

Now I tell anyone who ask. Why? If I'm recognized (I don't look the same...really) the first assumption made is that I'm sick. So I explain and I've inspired one of my friends to have the surgery.

I told, I wanted to inspire others, there are a lot of overweight people at my job, and I was inspired by someone else, so I was hoping to " pay it forward"

Thanks everybody! I have decided what I am gonna do. After I get my surgery date I'm gonna tell all of my friends. As of right now I have only told like 4 people. As for work people I am gonna tell them when I come back from my surgery leave. I work at an office so I should only be out for (hopefully) a week! Thanks!

I haven't had surgery yet but have been sooo excited that I've told more people at work than I thought.  My plan was to spread the news after surgery then opinions wouldn't matter.  It's important to note that someone in need of a weight management solution may need to know this is a successful option...just sayin"....Be the INSPIRATION.
